The Harriet Tubman Project
Dismantling Structrual and Institutional Racism
The Harriet Tubman Project is a legal class established by Rickey "Fuquan" McGee in 2021 at the MCI Norfolk Correctional Facility. Under the African American Coalition Committee umbrella, the goal of The HTP is to dismantle structural racism beginning with abolishing the mental slavery that exists within the institutions, and educating the participants on their legal and moral obligations to participate in their own fight for freedom.

The Harriet Tubman Project is a modern railroad to mental and physical freedom. Currently we serve the wrongfully convicted, the actually & factually innocent men of MCI Norfolk Correctional Facility.
Twice a week, 40 to 80 incarcerated men from all walks of life, meet to learn the law, in order to effectively advocate for themselves. The literacy is focused on the injustice in the criminal justice system, and the structural & institutional racism that perpetuates it.
With an emphasis on change from the bottom up. The HTP's outreach progress in policy change is consistent through civic engagement. Regularly meeting with key members of the legislative branch of government; the group applies their lived experiences to ensure effective change.
OUR VISION
The Harriet Tubman Project aims to reduce recidivism by educating its participants on how structural racism plays a major role in engineering crime. Empowering those most impacted by systematic racism, will deteriorate institutions profiting from the lack of knowledge in these marginalized communities. Encouraging policy change, will ultimately reduce the rate of communities being exploited by this cycle of oppression.
Our vision is to refine the program to include the public. Empowering families and abolitionists with the tools to advocate and support the wrongfully convicted.
Ultimately, ensuring these services will be available to all correctional facilities, including those serving women and juveniles.

Call to Action:
Civil Rights Investigation
The HTP is seeking to launch a civil rights investigation into the
years of misconduct within Suffolk County’s Law Enforcement that
have led to countless wrongful convictions.
We are focused on redress to bring justice to the wrongfully sentenced. With new discovery, the wrongfully incarcerated can use these findings to overturn their sentencings and ultimately come home from decades of modern day slavery.
